A TVET qualification is only as valuable as the trust behind it. Quality assurance (QA) is the system that earns and protects that trust — for learners, employers, regulators and the nation. 1. Standards that come from industry
Quality starts upstream, with occupational standards generated together with employers and sector skills bodies. If standards do not reflect what industry actually needs, everything built on top of them inherits the gap.
2. Valid, reliable assessment
Assessment must measure the right competencies, consistently, regardless of who administers it. This is the heart of TVET assessment reform: replacing a multiplicity of inconsistent testing regimes with valid, reliable, competency-based assessment — and the accountability systems to administer it.
3. Capable people
Facilitators, assessors and verifiers need ongoing development. A QA system is only as strong as the people running it, which is why capacity building and innovative facilitation methods are inseparable from quality.
4. Internal and external verification
Verification — both internal and external — is the feedback loop that catches drift before it becomes failure. Clear processes, evidence and documentation make the system auditable and defensible.
5. Continuous improvement
Quality is never “done.” The best institutions treat QA as a cycle: gather evidence, review against standards, act, and review again. This is what holds up under accreditation and audit — and what keeps a qualification credible over time.
